Meet Chloe Latimer

The Glasgow born singer-songwriter Chloe Latimer got her big break after supporting Nina Nesbitt in 2011. After discovering we liked each other's music, we soon started chatting.
With her first headline gig approaching soon, this girl is destined for big things in 2014.

When did you first decide you wanted to pursue music as a career, and why?

I think it all started way back when I was watching people like Gabrielle Aplin on YouTube, just doing covers. She really inspired me to pick up a guitar then after I played my first gig I caught the bug.

Being a Glasgow girl, how has the response and support been to your music from your home town?
It has been MENTAL. I genuinely didn't even imagine two years ago that I would be headlining my dream venue at 17. I find it quite odd and hilarious as I haven't even released any proper music, yet! The music scene up here is quite close and competitive - everybody knows of and supports each other, from my experience anyway, so it's really nice to be doing well up here!

You've already supported Nina Nesbitt and Gabrielle Aplin, which is amazing! What's been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Thank you! Hmmm… I think it was probably when I got a text from my friend telling me I had won the Gabrielle Aplin contest whilst I was in work cleaning toilets, haha! It was ridiculous. It was amazing supporting Nina too, though. I don't think I'd be doing half the stuff I am right now if it wasn't for her giving me my first gig. I definitely owe a lot to Miss Nesbitt!

Being totally honest, what's been the hardest thing about being an independent musician?
Being totally honest? I wouldn't say it's the money… it is hard, I guess, funding everything you do off your own bat but I find it really rewarding as well. Ed Sheeran said something pretty awesome… he compared the music industry to the playground and that's exactly what it is! You have the popular people, the weirdos, the quiet ones and the bullies. It's hard to find your own in amongst all that, I think.

You've got your first headline show next week, I'm very excited for you! Do you have any tips for any people out there who want to follow the singer songwriter path?
I do! Thank you ahhh! Yes! I'll be honest, haha. These are some of the things I wish people had told me when I was starting out:
  • Be yourself because there's already an Ed Sheeran, Nina Nesbitt, Gabrielle Aplin etc.
  • Try not to focus on what everyone else has done/is doing because everybody's paths are different. Things usually happen when you least expect them to!
  • Don't get too caught up in 'the industry'. Write music for the right reasons!

Anything else exciting we should keep a look out for in 2014?
I'm releasing my first single this year called Weirdo Like Me which I'm hoping will be out by Spring. I'm also releasing my first EP, too!

Quick fire 3...

What's your hair secret? Oh man, I wish I had one… I really love using Silver Shampoo for brightening up my hair?! I'm sorry, that's a terrible secret!

One TV show you're addicted to? Right now… Supernatural! It's amazing. I also love True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. I wish I was a Vampire...

Dream duet? Calvin Harris! Bit random I know, but he's ridiculously talented and I love literally all of his stuff. He's awesome.
