Making the most of your morning | Six Thirty AM Syndrome

To this day I believe than lie-ins are a myth - something that cool moody teens would do in sitcoms that didn't really happen in real life.
You see, I suffer from a self-diagnosed condition known as the 'Six Thirty AM Syndrome' *yikes*
This pretty much means that regardless of what time I go to sleep, I'll always be up at the crack of dawn, purely because my body clock has wired itself this way. (If anyone knows where I can trade in/fix this clock of mine, please let me know asap!!)
I'm also a firm believer of the fact that starting your morning well can be the difference between suffering from a mid afternoon crisis, or successfully completing your to-do list like an absolute pro. I find that waking up early can be completely useless if I spend the extra hours in the morning battling with my eyelids in order to keep them closed, or doing something completely un-beneficial to the rest of my day. I've slowly learnt to use my early mornings to my advantage by throwing in some very simple routines to keep me calm, cool, and prepared for the day ahead.

Water Water Water

Every night I fill a pint glass with water and leave it by my bed. As soon as I wake up, I'll make sure to drink it in one go. Doing this is perfect for those who struggle to get out of bed in the morning, as the cold water is perfect for waking your body up and kick starting your day. It works like a dream, trust me!

Stretching and exercise

Not everyone has time to fit in a work out before work, but spending even a minute stretching can relieve some of the tension built up during your sleep. It also feels freakin' good. Here's one of my faves by Fitness Blender: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XewzQ9MRDh8

Meditating/Prayer

Spending at least a few minutes in the morning thinking about positive things, reading scriptures or positive quotes can completely transform your day. How I feel during certain events or tasks is usually based on my own personal perception, so reading something motivational mentally prepares me to react well to the things life may throw at me that day! I personally find prayer also helps me focus my mind by reminding me that the world is a huge place, and that there's so much more to life than fulfilling my own daily needs & wants.

Making your Bed

I never used to do this, and it took me a while for this to develop as a daily habit - but I can honestly say, there's nothing more satisfying than fixing up my duvet covers and fluffing up pillows every morning (Yes, I'm a freak). Not only does this also mentally prepare me for the day, but it also stops myself from being tempted to crawl back in...

The breakfast factor

I know a lot of people who hate eating in the morning, but missing breakfast isn't an option for me - especially when I have to spend the day being focussed. Eating well doesn't only put me in a better mood, but the right foods can help boost my energy and perform better throughout the day. My go to breakfast at the moment usually involves porridge oats and a fruit/veggie smoothie, or something egg related. I know for a fact that both of these options will keep me full till lunch time, and give me enough energy to get on with my to-do list!

Do you have any morning routines? Let me know!
