CHOCOLATE BROWNIE IN A JAR | DIY GIFT

If you're looking for an alternative, yet inexpensive gift for a loved one, I present to you the chocolate brownie in a jar. Last month I made a small batch of these bad boys with a wonderful organisation called Renew 37. We gave them away to local businesses as Christmas gifts and they went down an absolute treat. Not only do they taste great, but they're fun to make and very easy to assemble! The amounts given below should fill a one litre jar nicely.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

A one litre jar (You can find these in most charity shops)

Paper tags and string/ribbon for the instructions

  • IN THE JAR
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 95 g plain flour
  • 35 g cocoa
  • 75 g plain flour
  • 135 g brown sugar
  • 150 g sugar
  • 100 g chocolate chips
  • 100g white chocolate chips

HOW TO MAKE IT

  1. 1. Layer the dry ingredients in a jar. Follow the order listed above, starting with the salt, baking powder and flour. Press each layer down before adding the next.
  1. 2. Write the following instructions on the tag: Combine the contents of the jar with 150g melted butter and 3 beaten eggs. Mix well, and pour into a lined 9 x 9 inch tin. Bake at Gas 4 / 180 C (160 fan) / 350 F for 25-35 minutes.
  2. 3. Attach the instruction tag to the jar with a piece of string or ribbon. Feel free to get creative with your presentation!
