3 THINGS THAT HELPED ME SIMPLIFY MY LIFE

When everything is changing, it's easy to feel like life is just happening to you. During overwhelming or complicated periods of time, keeping things simple is key. Here are some things that have helped simplify my life during those hectic moments.

KNOWING SOME RELATIONSHIPS ARE ONLY FOR A SEASON

Some people will be in your life forever, and some will only be there for a period of time. Knowing when to hold on and persevere in a relationship is essential, but it's also important to know when to let go or move on peacefully. It saves time, energy, and allows you to invest emotionally in the right relationships in a healthy way.

Holding on to a relationship longer than you need to, whether romantic or not, usually complicates things. Not only can it make it harder to move forward, but depending on the situation, it can also lead to insecurities, bitterness or even anger. Coming to terms with the fact that some things are only for a season really changed the way I viewed my relationships. They take a lot of time and energy, so being honest about what is working and what isn't is great for keeping your heart healthy.

DECLUTTERING & DOWNSIZING

Do you have duplicates of items you never use, or items you don't need? Yep, so did I. Packing up boxes and going through my things whilst moving house really allowed me to identify what I really don't need in my life. It also allowed me to free up space that could be used for more important things. Instead of having a wardrobe stuffed with clothes, every so often I take the time to get rid of items I haven't worn in a long time. The reality is, if I haven't worn them in the past year, I probably will never wear them. I've found this to be the case for other 'stuff' in general. For all my, 'I have no where to put my things' friends, taking time to do this will leave your space and mind feeling a whole lot lighter.

ACCEPTING WHAT I CAN/CAN'T CHANGE

If there's a hard situation in my life or a problem I have to overcome, being honest about whether I can do something about it has truly been eye opening. It showed me that there's no need to worry about things that are out of my control, because in the end, there's nothing I can do about it anyway. As for the things I can solve, it's pushed me to plan and start taking action, rather than shying away or being overwhelmed. Either way, it's a relief to know that you can move forward, even in the most challenging of situations.

  2. Agree with all of the above. I tend to invest a lot in relationships which opens me up to a lot of hurt, which I would just ignore. But as time has gone on, I'm getting better at letting people go. The amount of energy needed to keep hanging onto dead ties isn't worth it and only becomes detrimental in the short and long term.

    1. It's a tough lesson to learn, right? But it usually always ends up being the best thing!
